At Dharma Care, we’re proud to partner with Yayasan Usaha Mulia (YUM) — a remarkable Indonesian charity that’s helping thousands of families break the cycle of poverty through education, health, and sustainable community development.
In 2024 alone, YUM reached close to 21,000 children and adults across West Java and Central Kalimantan. Behind every number is a story — of determination, growth, and hope.

📚 Education That Opens Doors
For children in rural West Java, quality learning materials can be rare. That’s why YUM’s Box of Books program is so transformative. Schools receive rotating boxes of 100 books — biographies, comics, and stories that ignite imagination and build literacy.
Anita, a local principal, shared:
“Before the program, only 50% of our students met literacy standards. After joining Box of Books, that number has jumped to 94%. What a difference!”
Across the region, more than 1,700 students now have access to engaging books and vibrant reading spaces. YUM’s tutoring and sponsorship programs also supported over 1,000 students, ensuring fewer children drop out and more continue on to higher education.
One of those students, Febi, graduated from high school this year and began studying public health at university — something her parents once thought impossible.
“I want to work in healthcare and help my community,” she said. “YUM’s support gave me the confidence to keep going.”

🧒 Nourishing Health from the Very Beginning
In communities where stunting affects up to 60% of children, YUM’s stunting prevention programs are life-changing. Pregnant mothers receive nutrition packs, cooking lessons, and health monitoring to support healthy pregnancies and babies.
Eva, a young mother in West Java, joined while struggling with chronic energy deficiency.
“I received nutritional food, yogurt, and iron supplements every month. My health improved — and my baby was born healthy and strong.”
Of the 101 babies born during the program, only one was classified as stunted — a remarkable achievement in a high-risk area.
Meanwhile, YUM’s Elderly Health and Wellbeing program is giving older people new purpose and community. More than 299 elderly participants now enjoy free health checks, exercise sessions, and creative workshops that keep them active and connected.
🌱 Sustainable Livelihoods and a Greener Future
In Central Kalimantan, YUM’s agroforestry and organic farming projects are helping small farmers restore their land and build stable incomes. By planting fruit trees and vegetables together, they’re reducing costs, improving soil health, and protecting the environment.
Farmer Yanti shared her experience:
“Before, we relied on pesticides and the soil became poor. Now, with YUM’s training, our gardens are healthy and productive — and we’re earning more.”
YUM also empowers youth through Vocational Training Centres, where hundreds of students gain skills in English, computer literacy, sewing, and hospitality. This year, students in the Hospitality Diploma Program completed internships at local hotels and even helped host international guests — real-world experience that builds confidence and employability.
