At the YUM Vocational Training Center (VTC) in Cipanas, the air has been buzzing with determination and hope. Each month, dozens of young people gather here—not just to learn skills, but to build a future. Two recent initiatives captured this spirit perfectly: a Job Seeking Skills Workshop and an English language learning session that brought students and mentors together in inspiring ways.
Preparing for the World of Work
In June, 19 motivated students from YUM’s English, Computer, and Sewing classes came together for a Job Seeking Skills Workshop themed “Preparation to Enter the Workforce.” The aim was simple but powerful—to give young people the tools, knowledge, and confidence to take their first real steps toward employment.
Guiding them were two YUM staff members who know exactly what that journey feels like. Ms. Mutiara, YUM’s Sponsorship Project Officer, shared valuable tips on how to write an eye-catching résumé and a persuasive job application. She also explained how to find job opportunities in today’s competitive market.
Meanwhile, Mr. Adang, a much-loved preschool teacher at YUM, brought the session to life with his warmth and storytelling. He walked participants through how to prepare for interviews, make a strong first impression, and handle those nerve-wracking first days at work.
What made the session so meaningful was that both speakers spoke from experience—offering not just theory, but lessons learned through their own personal journeys.

Learning English, Building Confidence
At the same time, the VTC’s English program continues to build bridges for students eager to expand their horizons. Recently, Atiqah, an International Relations student from Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Malaysia, joined one of Mr. Ray’s English classes during her internship at YUM.
From the moment she entered the classroom, Atiqah was struck by the students’ enthusiasm and openness. “Their warmth, energy, and curiosity created such a positive environment,” she said. “I was impressed by how ambitious they are and by the potential they show.”
Under Mr. Ray’s creative teaching—using games and discussions tied to real-world topics—students are not only improving their English skills but also learning to express themselves with confidence. For many, this is a vital step toward future studies, jobs, and international opportunities.
“This experience helped me see how the VTC English program fosters not only language skills but also confidence and ambition in young people,” Atiqah shared.
Creating Pathways to Possibility
Both the Job Seeking Workshop and English program reflect YUM’s commitment to helping young people build brighter futures. By offering practical skills training, mentorship, and encouragement, the Vocational Training Center in Cipanas continues to be a place where potential turns into opportunity.
