Indonesian Earthquake Appeal

Fundraising for YUM Cipanas Earthquake Recovery

Background

Yayasan Usaha Mulia (YUM) is a large Indonesian charity that has been operating for over forty years. Dharma Care has worked with YUM on many projects over the years and highly value their professionalism.

On Monday 21 Nov 2022, a 5.6 magnitude earthquake hit the region of Cianjur in West Java. The epicenter was very close to YUM’s field of operations in Cipanas and the community there was very badly affected.  Dharma Care has worked with YUM in these areas over the last six years. These are poor rural communities where there is often a lack of government services.

Latest Situation Report

As of yesterday, more than 73,000 people are displaced and living in shelters.

Houses have been destroyed and services broken.

Food is in short supply.

Read more from the personal account of the Cipanas earthquake relief efforts by YUM staff on the ground.

You can also read more about the recovery in the latest report and our article.

Assistance

Dharma Care has been in touch with YUM to see how we can best help.  They have put together a plan that involves: providing Emergency Relief Kits consisting of  basic food (rice, protein, vegetables, cooking oil for those who have a community kitchen) or ready-to-eat food for those who do not have a kitchen, water, supplies for babies and children (diapers, baby food, etc), clothing, and hygiene products, and emergency tents.

These funds will help at least 500 families (or around 2,000 people).

We have now closed Online Fundraising for this project. $8,152 raised.

We exceeded our target and have donated the funds raised, We would also like to especially thank the Dharma Care donors who donated $8,152 to our appeal within 3 weeks during Dec 2022.
